Role at the CentreLeader, Research Home-care doctor Year started at the Centre1999 Year became a doctor1988 | About her work in palliative care, Dr. Husain says, “I am fortunate that my work helps me understand my life.” She’s always been drawn to working with patients who have significant barriers to accessing care. Home palliative patients are such a population. At the beginning of her career, this passion expressed itself through working with new immigrant populations, patients with HIV and other complex care patients. "I chose to focus my practice in palliative care,” she says, “because I found it had all the elements I enjoyed most in my previous work. I’m intensely involved with my patients and their families at a significant time in their life. I feel I can make a difference.” Amna is equally passionate about her research at the Centre, which she sees as crucial in promoting the cause of palliative medicine in Canada. “The main point of research is to change things,” she says. “Change the way we understand things and improve the care we provide patients and their families.”
